Friends Lucy Walker, 12, and 11 year-old Lauren Bowers have raised an incredible £1,005 for Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s Project Polar campaign.

The girls, who are passionate about animal conservation and attend Brooksbank School in Elland, have staged cake sales, designed gift cards and bookmarks and did a sponsored walk up Snowdon, collecting donations from other walkers on the way.

The pair presented a cheque to Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation trustee  Cheryl Williams  at the  ten acre  Project Polar Reserve, home to the country’s only bears, 16-year-old Victor and two-year-old Pixel.

YWP’s Pixel joined Victor in March as part of a important conservation initiative for the world’s largest carnivore and quickly settled in. Their ground breaking reserve is one of the world’s largest spanning ten acres (about 8.5 football pitches) and divided into four sections, featuring landscaped hills, valleys as well as lakes and pools up to 8 metres deep.
