JORVIK Viking Centre – Return of the Vikings: Opening Weekend

Join the Vikings for two days of action packed celebration, filled with Norse inspired music, games and battle displays! Held in Coppergate Square, allow yourself to travel back in time to the Viking era, and get involved with traditional events that provide hours of fun for the whole family.

Crafts and competitions will be available for your little ones to enjoy throughout the day, and after you’ve filled up on festivities in the square, hop over to the NEW and improved JORVIK Viking Centre.

Discover the new features of the attraction, and be blown away with what’s on offer! From sights, smells and sounds of the Vikings, you’ll easily lose track of time with so much to see and do. Explore a whole other time period this Easter, and learn to love the Vikings!

If you are one of the first 100 people to buy tickets at JORVIK on the re-launch weekend, you will receive a Golden Ticket, entitling you to an exclusive Return of the Vikings coin set. Arrive early for a chance to win this very special prize!

Royal Armouries: Tournament

Experience the magic of authentic jousting live from the Royal Armouries Museum! The event takes place deep in the heart of Leeds, and presents proud knights eagerly battling for the Sword of Honour and the much sought after Queen’s Jubilee Trophy.

Commencing Easter weekend, there is plenty packed into the four days, with pomp and pageantry music, and minstrels. With two exciting tournament shows taking place across the weekend. This Easter event has proven to be a family favourite, with 2016 being a sell-out show! Visit the museum this Easter for an unforgettable jousting experience, full of exciting activities.

The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm. Activities in the museum start at 10.45am. Arena shows will be at 12pm and 3pm and last approximately 45 minutes. Tickets include both shows.

National Coal Mining Museum for England – Easter Festivities

If you’re stuck on filling your Easter holiday, National Coal Mining Museum for England has plenty of fantastic activities to keep the whole family happy and entertained for the duration of your time off! From an Easter weekend egg hunt, bonnet making and free promenade performances by Wakefield Theatre Royal youth drama group ‘In On The Act’.

There is also the chance to:

  • Meet the NEW living history characters and find out more about the 1940s
  • Join the Coalshed Poets for ‘craftivities’ and storytelling based on the story of a terrible dragon that lives underground. Wed 12 & Wed 19 April: 1pm-3pm.
  • Discover the large object store where the big mining machinery and vehicles are kept. Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays in the Easter holidays.

Don’t forget to visit the Museum’s fantastic exhibition, ‘By the People, For the People’. Marking the 70th anniversary of the nationalisation of the coal industry, the Museum draws upon what happened those 70 years ago and the impact it had on the industry. It is certainly not one to be missed, and the perfect opportunity to get to know more about such a fascinating trade.
