A whole day dedicated to children?! That’s right, National Children’s Day is taking place on 12th May. Eureka! The National Children’s Museum have laid on a super event highlighting the importance of a healthy childhood with activities running all day! There’s so much going on at Eureka this month, including the launch of their new exhibition Digital Dimensions in their Spark Gallery on 25th May AND their out-of-this-world May Half-Term event Moon Missions. Celebrate 50 years since humans first landed on the moon by seeing a NEW space show and take part in astronaut training in a human gyroscope, 25th May – 2nd June. Prepare yourself because this month Yorkshire Wildlife Park is being taken over by the world of Comic Book Superheroes! This brand-new event taking place from 31st May – 2nd June will drive you wild, with a spectacular comic book exhibition, Cosplay competitions, interactive games and incredible animals, this one’s got it all.

Make your May a magical one with Tropical Butterfly House’s Enchanted Fairy Forest from 25th May – 2nd June. Explore the fairy guided walk and experience a fantasy world with tiny pixies dwellings, friendly dragons and fairy hideaways, as well as a craft corner! Inject some colour into your May with The Deep’s dazzling event Colours of the Ocean from 4 – 6th May. Discover the wondrous world of colour and vision beneath the waves with their interactive presentation and craft corner. Or for a weekend delivering a more alarming message, visit The Deep for their Endangered Species Weekend from 18 – 19th May and learn how they are helping to save animals around the globe. If that doesn’t get your heart racing then their May Half-Term event Sense-ational Sharks definitely will! From 25th May – 2nd June, you can dive in and learn more about sharks’ super senses!

Don’t get yourself in a flap this May, let your hair down and have a boogie with Sean Kingston at Flamingo Land’s Party in the Park. On 25th May Sean Kingston will be bringing some Carribean flavour to the Flamingo Land Resort, with hits like ‘Dumb Love’ and ‘Beautiful Girls’. If you’re looking to make a splash this May Bank Holiday (4th – 6th May) take the kids to Lightwater Valley for thrills big and small with over 35 rides and attractions, suitable for all ages. Don’t burst your children’s bubble, keep the fun flowing as you see Bubble Max come to Lightwater Valley. Watch in amazement as Bubble Max, the master bubbleologist, creates bubbles as tiny as ants and as giant as elephants during his shows at the park from Saturday 25th – Friday 31st May.

The weather is warming up this May, making it the perfect time to get in touch with the outside world… and we mean physically! Get marvellously muddy and hang out with the bugs at William’s Den this May Half Term for their Marvellous Mud and Bugs event. From 25th May – 2nd June brew up magnificent mud pies, create brilliant bug masks and play Bug Bingo with plenty of indoor and outdoor fun. Perhaps you’d like to channel your inner superhero this May with Magna Science Adventure Centre’s Hallam FM Cash for Kids Superhero Takeover Day on 5th May. Magna say that everyone can be a superhero, not just when you wear a costume, that’s why they’ve created a day to ignite your imaginations and release the hero within you – plus help a brilliant local charity!

Cannon Hall Farm is yet another attraction that has SO much going on this May! Dive in to their Little Mermaid Pantomime with TaleGate Theatre Productions on 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th and 12th of May – it’s shrimply the best show around! Or perhaps their Sheep Shearing Weekend would be more up your street, from 4th – 6th May author Amanda Owen (the Yorkshire Shepherdess) will give some demos and talks on sheep shearing demonstrations, you’d be BAArmy to miss it! Out of your wellies and into your best frock because Olly Murs and Ariana Grande tribute acts are coming to Cannon Hall Farm on 18th May for a Pop-Star Party to remember. Sing and dance along to some of your favourite tunes as the stars teach you their favourite dance routines. Taking a hop and a skip back in time this May and you can jump straight into the court of Elizabeth I in Royal Armouries’ Monarchs weekends from 25 – 27th May. There will be talks, tours and costumes, plus Queen Elizabeth I will also be hosting special Tudor riding skills horse shows in the outdoor arena. Continuing the royal theme their Right Royal Armouries May Half-Term event, running from 28th May – 2nd June, will be packed with Royal-themed activities for all ages including live combat displays, storytelling, dramatic performances, have-a-goes, crafts and much more.

Diggerland are putting on a selection of film screenings this month with a twist! In association with Urban Drive-In Cinema, Diggerland are setting up their very own amazing drive-in cinema experience. They will be showing The Greatest Showman on 3rd May, Star Wars IV: A New Hope on 4th May, Bohemian Rhapsody on 10th May, A Star is Born on 11th May, Mary Poppins Returns on 17th May and Top Gun on 18th May. All the shows will be running from around 9pm, while doors open at 8pm; the price is £25 per car. So what are you waiting for jump in and drive on through to Diggerland Yorkshire this month.
